Though I probably could have spent hundreds of dollars at the show, I tried to limit my purchases at Stumptown so I’d still have money to feed myself before my next paycheck.

This weekend, Stumptown Comics Fest took Portland by storm. It was a fun show full of friendship, great comics, fantastic creators, and knowledgeable and enthusiastic fans. I worked the Dark Horse booth most of Saturday and returned Sunday to do some shopping. All in all, a great weekend and a great show.
I really should begin taking photos of people, but here are the photos I have to commemorate the event… Continue Reading “Stumptown Comics Fest 2012: The iPhone Photos”

Not all of you may be aware of this, but today is a hilarious holiday. Sure, it’s the mostly unfunny Valentine’s Day, but don’t forget, it’s also the chuckle-worthy Bale-entine’s Day, as well!
“What’s Bale-entine’s Day?” you ask. Well, simply put, it’s a day where a bunch of nerds pair dreamy pictures of Christian Bale with Batman quotes and send them to each other in the hopes of eliciting a lot of schoolgirl-esque giggling. (Or, at least that’s what today is all about for me and a few of my friends—the inventors of Bale-entine’s Day.)

During Movember 2011, I was contacted by Movember HQ to see if I had any high-res photos of myself that they could potentially use in official Mo’-related ads. I was excited by the prospect, but disheartened when I realized I didn’t have a single photo that fit the specs they needed. My “classic” mustache and lions photo wouldn’t cut it this time! This Movember, I was fortunate enough to receive some help in my fundraising efforts from a number of wonderful and generous people. It’s belated, but I have to pass along a huge and special “Thank you!” to my good buddy Josh Wigler!
Not only has Mr. Wigler made a very large and selfless donation each year I’ve participated in the mustache-centric fundraiser, but this year, as the editor of the MTV Movies Blog, Josh gave me the opportunity to write about Movember for a national audience. After some pitching and brainstorming, Josh (and his kind bosses at MTV) greenlit a column called Movember Mustache Movie Madness and I started writing. Much like last year, as opposed to a “Best of” list, I’ve compiled a list of what books I read in 2011.
The books are listed chronologically based on when I finished them. Notable reads are marked in italics. The novels I read were work related, but otherwise, this doesn’t include stuff I read specifically for the purposes of my job.
Here’s the list of the 50+ books I enjoyed this past year.

Well, we made it. Thirty days ago, we were a group a fresh-faced fellas. Today, we’re a mighty team of mustachioed men. A team, by the way, that’s raised $18,537! Continue Reading “Movember Moustache Photo Diary 2011: Day 30!”

We did it!
The Ministry of Mustache Growth & Management has reached $15,000 in donations! Huge! I’ve been writing a lot of these “Goal: Met!” posts this Movember. Definitely a good thing. Continue Reading “Movember Moustache Photo Diary 2011: Day 26, 27 and 28”
