Hellboy Doodle

I pulled out my pens earlier and doodled this Hellboy image, colored it a few ways and thought I’d post the results here. I’m still getting back in the swing of doodling (Please note: This is not art, nor will you hear me calling it that—’cause it isn’t art.) so I stuck with a simple bust-shot and an angle that always comes easily for me when I’m “cartooning.” Anywho, here are the images. I hope you dig them.

My Best of 2009, or Some Stuff I Read and Liked

Come December, the “Best Of” lists begin rolling out and I realize how few of this year’s massive amount of great books I read in the past 365 days. Keeping up with every exciting indie and explosive mainstream title is hard work in this economy, even for a guy who ended up getting most of his comics via comped copies in 2009. Still, though I may not have read much that’s made people’s top ten lists this year, but I have read a ton of great comics in 2009.

Loads o’ Dark Horse links, or “What I did this week at my new job”

Now, I won’t make a habit of flooding this blog with all the news and promotional links I helped to arrange at my day job, but as I’m only in my third week at Dark Horse, I figure one post full of links won’t kill the ol’ EoP! Plus, after two weeks of learning the ropes, I feel like this is the week I really started getting into the swing of things—and I “swang” hard! These links are evidence of that “swingage!”

Good tidings!

Though this blog over the past month has been almost entirely dedicated to moustaches, their greatness and why they’re an incredibly motivating reason to donate money to help combat men’s cancer, there actually has been a bit more than just facial hair pushing my life forward of late.

Great Comic Quotes: Dylan Dog

I recently finished Dark Horse’s massive collection of horror-filled detective stories straight from Italy (though the stories take place in and around London) entitled “The Dylan Dog Case Files.” It’s definitely enjoyable stuff, so I highly recommend checking it out—especially if you like a little deduction with your scary stories. The case files are full of great quotes, but due to the book’s binding much of it is extremely difficult to scan. However, this gem in writer Tiziano Sclavi’s tale “Dawn of the Living Dead” (illustrated by Angelo Stano) fell on a page corner and I could schmoosh it down enough to scan it in.

Check out “Conan the Cimmerian” and “The ACT-I-VATE Primer”

At Big Apple Comic Con this past weekend, I grabbed a free copy of the last issue of Wizard I worked on before being let go. There are two pieces in this ish that it was particularly enjoyable to write, the “Book of the Month” feature on Dark Horse’s “Conan the Cimmerian” and the “Webcomic of the Month” feature on “The ACT-I-VATE Primer.” For your reading convenience, I’m posting them here.

Please enjoy and then go check these great titles out at your local comic shop!

Back from Baltimore

Hey Folks!

After a long weekend of convention-going and freelance writing, I’m back from Baltimore Comic-Con. Yep, I was down in the Charm City this past weekend enjoying a good ol’-fashioned comic book convention and getting back to my journalistic roots with some straight up reporting and writing on a tight deadline. All in all, it was a pretty great weekend, but I’ll run through some highlights quickly for those who may be interested.
