San Diego Comic-Con 2012: The Photos

Continuing my Comic-Com International recollection for 2012 after posting a list of highlights a few days ago, here are all the photos I took at this year’s show. In year’s past, I’ve come home from San Diego only to realize I took about five to ten photos that in no way showcase the Comic-Con experience. So, this year, I made an effort to take a ton of photos. If I thought, “Wow, that’s a weird/interesting/strange/wild/crazy/outrageous/cool/fun thing!” I did my best to capture it on my iPhone camera.

Here’s what I came home with this year… Continue Reading “San Diego Comic-Con 2012: The Photos”

San Diego Comic-Con 2012: The Memories

It was a helluva show, folks!

Comic-Con International 2012, aka San Diego Comic-Con, was a raucous success this year. By far the best SDCC I’ve ever attended. Not only was it a very encouraging show—seems every comic person I talked to was selling a lot of stuff and having a great time, so the air of enthusiasm was very high—but it was a show without any real problems. (So, far as my experience went… a rarity for such a huge convention.) In short, I had way too much fucking fun and also managed to get some work done. Success!

San Diego Comic-Con 2011: The Memories

A question I’ve been asking myself since I returned from the insane event known as San Diego Comic-Con is “How can one best relay a Comic-Con experience?” The entire convention is a random and intense series of experiences, conversations, happenings and emotions flying by at 100 miles per hour for a entire week. It wipes you out completely and utterly as its five of the fullest days you’ll ever experience, and yet you always leave regretting not being able to do more in the time you’re given there.

Thankfully, I don’t have the hard task of trying to boil down this massive nerd prom into a series of well written articles like so many hard-working journalists I know. I’m allowed to just load all my memories into a metaphorical blog-shaped shotgun and fire them off at the internet haphazardly hoping someone—anyone!—who reads this blog can make sense of them. In the end, these next few posts are as much for the sake of capturing my memories of the events for posterity’s sake as they are to relay my stories to you fine folks. Regardless, I had a wonderful time and here’s my attempt—in vain—to sum it all up. Continue Reading “San Diego Comic-Con 2011: The Memories”

SUPER TIMELY BLOG POST ALERT! My Comic-Con experience in bits and pieces.

I went to my first San Diego Comic-Con three weeks ago. Long story short, it was a work-filled, more or less sleepless, alcohol-infused 6-day bender of nerdiness. Long story even shorter, I had a blast.

Continuing a Pre-San Diego tradition

Last year, I drew a cartoon for my buddy Josh Wigler as he worked vigorously to prepare for Comic-Con International in San Diego. Josh used that cartooned image of himself for his Twitter icon up until last week… when he asked me to doodle him up a new face to run alongside his tweets. Busy with Comic-Con prep work for Dark Horse myself, not to mention I needed to do laundry and other assorted chores in preparation of a week away from home, I still wanted to keep the tradition going and doodled up this new image while washing my unmentionables.

San Diego Comic-Con from the sidelines

Last weekend was the massive San Diego Comic-Con. For those living under rocks in caves on the moon, SDCC is a pop culture and comic book convention of epic proportions that is chock-full of panels featuring comic pros, Hollywood stars and specially screened clips of upcoming movies—and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The show floor is loaded with nearly a bajillion exhibitors, artists, creators and vendors, and after hours there are parties out the wazoo.

Or so I’ve heard.
