The 11th Hour kick off their Movember… with video!

I’ve never grown a mustache alongside real, live internet personalities before! But this year, that all changes!

Let me explain…

Last year, the fine folks over at PanelsOnPages.com—old buddies of mine—were kind enough to have me on their weekly podcast and allow me to promote my Movember efforts. Consistently a fun group of guys to interact with online or in person, I’m always impressed, flattered, humbled, and very grateful for how supportive the PoP! crew has been of lil’ ol’ me—not to mention any fun-loving nerd that crosses their path and wants to join their awesome enclave of fanboy (and fangirl!) friendship. Point being, that’s a bunch of real solid dudes over at PoP!

And so, it’s both a pleasure and an honor to announce that two members of the PoP!ulation have joined the Ministry of Mustache Growth & Management for Movember 2011! Continue Reading “The 11th Hour kick off their Movember… with video!”

At the mercy of the crowd: Buying new comics based on popular recommendations

Taking a cue from Jason Keruoac’s “52 Pick-Up,” I’ve decided to buy one new release pamphlet-style comic book each week based on a popular vote via online channels like my Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook. This week’s pick is Dynamite’s “Warlord of Mars: Dejah Thoris” as suggested by Lucas Beechinor (@gothamnights). Taking the PoP! Quiz

Way back at Chicago Comic-Con, the good fellows from Panels On Page asked me to step in front of the camera and complete their PoP! Quiz. Hosted by mic master Jason Kerouac, I fielded a series of semi-ridiculous questions about comics and the convention while attempting to be professional and hilarious in my haggard state at the end of the weekend. Though only a few of my responses made the final cut, it was a blast to participate and even more exciting to see it cut together all pretty-lookin’ thanks to my man Jason “K-Nice” Knize.

Alright, alright, on to the video… Continue Reading “Taking the PoP! Quiz”

Thank you all!

Hey folks.

Last night, at a little before 8 p.m., I was let go from my job at Wizard Entertainment.

Since then, I have received an overwhelming amount of amazingly supportive, kind and flattering emails, Facebook messages and tweets from a ton of truly great people! Thank you all so much! I guess when the going gets tough, you really see how many wonderful people you’re surrounded with. I’m just grateful to be surrounded by so many.

Also, additional big thanks to Josh Wigler, Sean T. Collins, Mel Caylo, Kiel Phegley, all the fans over at the Wizard Universe Message Boards and the crew at Panels On Pages for voicing their support in the public forum, as well as privately.

TJ Dietsch—an extremely rad guy who was ToyFare‘s Associate Editor—was also laid off last night. Check out his blog at www.unitedmonkee.com and spread the love.

Again, thank you so much, everyone! The outpouring of support has been truly touching and has only helped my love grow for all my friends, colleagues and the comic industry as a whole. Thank you.

Enemy of Peanuts’ PoP! video plug

At Chicago Comic-Con, the fellas from Panels On Pages were videoing in full effect and waved me down for an interview at the end of the con. Though—I’m told—parts of the “PoP! Quiz” I took will air in a later video, the PoP!stars had me film a quick plug for their site, Wizard and EnemyOfPeanuts.com that they used in their recent PoP! Invasion video.

EoP appears on the Panels On Pages Awful Snack PoPcast

Last night, I spent two hours on the phone with four other nerds (Yep! I, too, am a nerd!) and talked about comics, comic book conventions and more. What made this different from any normal nerd conversation that I have off hours from work is that it was recorded as the 12th episode of the Panels on Pages Awful Snack PoPcast: The podcast of the fantastic “all things geek” Web site!
