A camp-centric comic strip gets Nothing More American back on track

May 10, 2009 By: Jim Gibbons Category: Comicks, Marginalia

Hey folks! With things going so smoothly here on EoP, I had a chance today to get my summer camp memoir blog back on track. I won’t post notices here every time that happens, but my the new post over at Nothing More American— the first in a long time—features a comic strip I drew to introduce the story. So, head on over to www.NothingMoreAmerican.com and check out the strip!

I’ll also begin posting links to any infrequent strips I do over at NMA on the “Webcomics” page, so checking there regularly will allow you to keep up on any camp comics I do.

Because this blog is all about the random…

I just checked my blog stats over at Nothing More American (my summer camp memoir blog)…

…and saw that search engine terms leading to my blog include “chubby young boys” and “dads and sons hazing.” I only got one hit for each, but I’m now hoping that there is a kindred soul in a former fat kid out there who found solace in my posts, but more than likely there is a huge f–king weirdo out there who just read about my camp experiences…yeah, the internet is a weird place.

I am the enemy of peanuts!

¡Hola internet dwellers!

I’m Jim Gibbons and this is a ludicrous blog of mine.

If you’re savvy to the interwebs, you may have seen my job blog over at The Loudest Monkey on WizardUniverse.com, or if you’re of a nostalgic and outdoorsy disposition, you may have come across a labor of love called Nothing More American—my summer camp memoir.

While both blogs are absolutely fabulous (seriously, check them out!), neither allowed me the proper venue to post all the abstract and random flights of fancy I’d like to share. And so, I deliver you Enemy of Peanuts!

While this would be a great way to wow potential readers with a grand mission statement, I haven’t got one. Essentially, this blog will be my own public bulletin board where I’ll post doodles, mini reviews of old comics, why I’m now just finally watching “Doctor Who” and what’s fantastic about it, thoughts on video games and who knows what else?! Either way, it should be fun—so, stick around!

Jim Gibbons.

Jim Gibbons.

Jim Gibbons is a comic book fan, pop culture enthusiast and hirsute raconteur. He’s also a sworn enemy of the peanut. These are his debonair ramblings on the aforementioned subjects and more!

Currently, Jim Gibbons is a publicity coordinator at Dark Horse Comics. Please make an effort to read all their books and comics. They are fantastic! (Seriously. Read them.)

At some point in 2009, Jim decided to take his childhood hobby of doodling in the margins of his notebooks and attempted to hone his cartooning skills to a level above fledgling. All his current cartooning and illustration efforts can be viewed in the Webcomics section of this blog. Of late, a great deal of this doodling has been slowed by real life activities. However, you can still check out his “cartoons” and secure your place in the history of awesomeness by purchasing something from his Awesome Online Shop!

Once upon a time, Jim was a journalist. A semi-comprehensive collection of his work can be viewed in the Journalism section, though many of the links there are now inactive for unknown reasons.

Also, a great many aspects of the man who is Jim Gibbons were fashioned through ten summers of camp life. Most of Jim’s best stories, and many of his happiest memories, come from the time he spent at summer camp. Read more about them at his summer camp memoir Nothing More American. (Though it’s rarely updated.)
