During Movember 2011, I was contacted by Movember HQ to see if I had any high-res photos of myself that they could potentially use in official Mo’-related ads. I was excited by the prospect, but disheartened when I realized I didn’t have a single photo that fit the specs they needed. My “classic” mustache and lions photo wouldn’t cut it this time! This Movember, I was fortunate enough to receive some help in my fundraising efforts from a number of wonderful and generous people. It’s belated, but I have to pass along a huge and special “Thank you!” to my good buddy Josh Wigler!
Not only has Mr. Wigler made a very large and selfless donation each year I’ve participated in the mustache-centric fundraiser, but this year, as the editor of the MTV Movies Blog, Josh gave me the opportunity to write about Movember for a national audience. After some pitching and brainstorming, Josh (and his kind bosses at MTV) greenlit a column called Movember Mustache Movie Madness and I started writing. This Friday, my folks threw an incredible party… A party that raised nearly $1,800 for the Ministry of Mustache Growth & Management’s Movember fund-raising efforts! In short, the Mustache Bash at the Gibbons household was a huge success! Continue Reading “A Mustache Bash for the ages!”
Last year, I achieved my goal of raising $1,000 and becoming a Movember Platinum Club Member. This year, I was hoping for a repeat performance. I’m pleased to report that today, thanks to a series of generous donators, I’ve achieved Platinum Status once again! Continue Reading “Platinum Club Member Status: Achieved… again!”
If you’ve ever thought, “Sure, helping in the fight against cancer with a donation to Movember makes me feel good about myself and life and the world, not to mention how much good karma it scores me that I can collect in my next life…but what else do I get out of it?!” Well then, you’re probably a bit of a selfish individual.
And yet, if you act now, you can get far more than peace of mind from a donation… you can score some original art from Ministry of Mustache Growth & Management Mo Bro Ryan Hill! Continue Reading “Ryan Hill offers original art in exchange for Movember donations”
After jokingly suggesting I shoot for a Jeff Daniels a la “Gettysburg” walrus-stache, Mr. Wigler decided I should attempt to emulate one of comic book history’s greatest mustaches… Continue Reading ““How about a Jim Gordon?””
It’s Movember 1st! Boom! I just shaved my face and I’m already growing a mean mustache (you just can’t see it yet)! It’s a good feeling, guys. A real good feeling. Continue Reading “The Shave (2011)”
Between the two branches of the Ministry of Mustache Growth & Management, my brother Dan and I have recruited 39 solid dudes for this year’s Movember campaign. Each and every one of these distinguished gentlemen is giant among men in his own right, but one recruit this year has me particularly excited: my dad, Dave Gibbons! Continue Reading “Dave Gibbons gets ready to resurrect a classic ‘stache”
As a fun little promo for Movember 2011, I went back through all my MacBook Pro webcam photos of my Movember 2010 mustache and made this montage video. Enjoy! Continue Reading “My Movember 2010 Mustache Growth: A Montage”
