San Diego Comic-Con 2011: The Memories

A question I’ve been asking myself since I returned from the insane event known as San Diego Comic-Con is “How can one best relay a Comic-Con experience?” The entire convention is a random and intense series of experiences, conversations, happenings and emotions flying by at 100 miles per hour for a entire week. It wipes you out completely and utterly as its five of the fullest days you’ll ever experience, and yet you always leave regretting not being able to do more in the time you’re given there.

Thankfully, I don’t have the hard task of trying to boil down this massive nerd prom into a series of well written articles like so many hard-working journalists I know. I’m allowed to just load all my memories into a metaphorical blog-shaped shotgun and fire them off at the internet haphazardly hoping someone—anyone!—who reads this blog can make sense of them. In the end, these next few posts are as much for the sake of capturing my memories of the events for posterity’s sake as they are to relay my stories to you fine folks. Regardless, I had a wonderful time and here’s my attempt—in vain—to sum it all up. Continue Reading “San Diego Comic-Con 2011: The Memories”

Hollywood Overhaul: Remaking Better Comic Movies

I was digging through some old files on my computer when I came across a piece I pitched to CBR during my brief freelance jaunt, but couldn’t follow through on due to my employment at Dark Horse. Luckily, I wrote an initial draft so it was all ready to be adapted for blogging…

Doctor… Who? Or, proof all Brits are connected to British Fiction… in their real lives!

As someone who studied abroad in the United Kingdom, I am frequently asked, “Is Great Britain similar to the many ‘quintessentially’ British things I’ve seen in Guy Ritchie movies, Harry Potter and Doctor Who?”

The answer is, of course, “Absolutely.”

I am the enemy of peanuts!

¡Hola internet dwellers!

I’m Jim Gibbons and this is a ludicrous blog of mine.

If you’re savvy to the interwebs, you may have seen my job blog over at The Loudest Monkey on WizardUniverse.com, or if you’re of a nostalgic and outdoorsy disposition, you may have come across a labor of love called Nothing More American—my summer camp memoir.

While both blogs are absolutely fabulous (seriously, check them out!), neither allowed me the proper venue to post all the abstract and random flights of fancy I’d like to share. And so, I deliver you Enemy of Peanuts!

While this would be a great way to wow potential readers with a grand mission statement, I haven’t got one. Essentially, this blog will be my own public bulletin board where I’ll post doodles, mini reviews of old comics, why I’m now just finally watching “Doctor Who” and what’s fantastic about it, thoughts on video games and who knows what else?! Either way, it should be fun—so, stick around!
