The Many Faces of Finn gets its own fan art!

September 02, 2010 By: Jim Gibbons Category: Skimming the Internets, TV guides

Remember, like a million years ago, when I slapped together a bunch of Adventure Time art into a wallpaper I called “The Many Faces of Finn?” To date, that post has scored my blog more hits than any other blog entry I’ve done here at Enemy of Peanuts. In short, that little wallpaper I whipped up is kinda popular on the internets. So popular, in fact, that it’s just received its own bit of fan art at the Adventure Time tumblr!

The man that’s greater than machine: Magnus!

July 12, 2010 By: Jim Gibbons Category: Comicks, Highest Recommendations!, Skimming the Internets

If you love comics and aren’t aware of the sketch blog Comic Twart (“Twart = Twitter + Art” if you’re already confused) then you need to seriously rethink how you’re spending your time on the internet. Tackling a new assignment each week, the elite sketching force featuring talents like Chris Samnee, Mitch Breitweiser, Tom Fowler, Francesco Francavilla and Mike Hawthorne put pencil to paper regularly to deliver numerous fresh takes on iconic comic heroes. The results are a treat on the eyeballs and it’s certainly among my favorite art-heavy online venues.

Last week, the crew tackled a favorite of mine: Magnus, Robot Fighter.

Get (Scott) Pilgrim-ized!

June 23, 2010 By: Jim Gibbons Category: Film Features, Skimming the Internets

There’s a rad promotional thingy-majigger for the upcoming “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” that everybody and their mothers are linking to and posting images of today. I created my Scott Pilgrim avatar last night and here’s my bandwagon-jumping blog-posting display of my tooned-out counterpart…

Pancakes: Now more colorful than ever before!

June 14, 2010 By: Jim Gibbons Category: Comicks, Illustrations, Real Life Happenings!, Skimming the Internets

People who read the previous post about a truly excellent piece of artwork I commissioned will undoubtedly remember the man responsible for it, Mr. Dan Hipp. In the aforementioned post, I posited that the number of additional fun gags in the commission could only be due to Señor Hipp being “far more rad than I expected.” Well, that hypothesis has been proven true again!

Today, over on his blog, Hipp posted a version of the commission splashed with glorious digital colors. This treat is most definitely the icing on a wonderful commission experience.

Groove-tastic art by Dan Hipp.

Thanks again, Dan!

A Pancake Dinner with Hellboy

June 14, 2010 By: Jim Gibbons Category: Comicks, Illustrations, Real Life Happenings!, Skimming the Internets

For those who’ve never been to a comic book convention, one of the coolest hobbies you can pick up while attending them is getting yourself a sketchbook, bringing it around to a multitude of artists and having them draw their takes on some hero, character or theme. During my time at Wizard, I had a chance to ogle some of the coolest sketchbooks one could ever hope to view. Dave Paggi’s Lockjaw and Calvin and Hobbes sketchbooks were the collections of con doodles that first made me drool enviously and laugh hysterically. Matt Powell’s Saturday Morning’s Awesome sketchbook and Sean Collins’ “I wish I’d had a chance to see it in person” David Bowie sketchbook helped convince me that I had to get one of my own going.

Jason Aaron: Explained!

June 09, 2010 By: Jim Gibbons Category: Comicks, Skimming the Internets

Jason Aaron, the talented comics writer responsible for titles like “Scalped” and “Ghost Rider,” posted this video on his blog today. In a strange way, I think the fact that Aaron both knew where to locate this video and shared it somehow begins to explain the insane awesomeness of his comics. Watch this, go read his first “Ghost Rider” arc and I think you’ll see what I mean.

Tortoises and TMNT and Crocs, oh my!

June 01, 2010 By: Jim Gibbons Category: Film Features, Skimming the Internets

Earlier today on BoingBoing, I saw this video of a tortoise rubbing up on a Croc (the shoe, not the animal). I laughed… a lot.

May Video Parade

May 25, 2010 By: Jim Gibbons Category: Skimming the Internets, TV guides

Over the course of a few days last week, I stumbled across or was directed to a bunch of great videos online. Like all users of the internets, I find time to watch a YouTube video here and there, but it seemed like a higher percentage of excellent viewables had come to my attention. So, I resolved to do a blog post with a bunch of the aforementioned videos. Then I got busy and didn’t get around to it… until now!

Two lucha libre links…

May 18, 2010 By: Jim Gibbons Category: Comicks, Skimming the Internets, ¡Viva Lucha Libre!

It’s been a while since I’ve done a ¡Viva Lucha Libre! post, and as I missed a perfect opportunity with “Hellboy in Mexico” coming out on Cinco De Mayo, I thought I’d post this graphic design gem I found thanks to Boing Boing.

Mal Reynolds as Hank Pym?! I think he may be a Hulkbuster.

May 17, 2010 By: Jim Gibbons Category: Comicks, Film Features, Skimming the Internets

While I’m not sure it’s as spot-on as my casting of Sam Rockwell as Hank Pym when rumors began circulating that the “Moon” star would appear in “Iron Man 2,” I absolutely love the idea of Nathan Fillion getting to be an Avenger.
