International Read Comics in Public Day 2010

August 28, 2010 By: Jim Gibbons Category: Comicks, Grassroots comics love, Real Life Happenings!

Today—August 28, 2010—is the first ever International Read Comics in Public Day. Coinciding with the birthday of legendary comics artist Jack “The King” Kirby, the event was created by Brian Heater and Sarah Morean of The Daily Cross Hatch and encourages people to make themselves visible to the general populace while enjoying some sequential storytelling. Here’s a bit more information from the official Read Comics in Public Day Web site…

“Lost” Comics!

May 05, 2010 By: Jim Gibbons Category: All Day Pizza Buffet, Comicks, Grassroots comics love, Highest Recommendations!, Skimming the Internets

Much as I enjoy speculating about the numerous mysteries of “Lost,” I haven’t blogged much about the show’s actual episodes since they talked about Ewoks last season. I’ll leave the heavy “Lost” commentary to people getting paid to write it, but that won’t keep me from highlighting my favorite thing the final season has led to: “Lost” Comics!

WARNING! “Lost” spoilers ahead! Tread lightly, pilgrim, and only move on past here… IF YOU DARE!

All Day Pizza Buffet: A Post-It for Dirk

April 20, 2010 By: Jim Gibbons Category: All Day Pizza Buffet, Grassroots comics love, Illustrations

After blogging yesterday’s Post-It doodles, I received a friendly prompt from Dark Horse super fan and knowledgeable comics aficionado Dirk Bauman reminding me that I owe him a doodle. I set blue Uniball pen to flimsy yellow paper and here’s what I came up with. It’s heavily inspired by this blog post from Dirk’s Comic Book Corner.

Hodgepodgin’

April 06, 2010 By: Jim Gibbons Category: Grassroots comics love, Illustrations, Real Life Happenings!, Skimming the Internets

This post is all about some odds and ends I’ve been meaning to blog. It starts off very Jim Gibbons-centric and moves on from there. As to these first links, let’s just say I’m keeping a record of online references to myself in order to one day show my grandkids how “cool” I was as a young man. Seems like as good a way as any to make this self-serving chronicling of links seem less vain, right?

More EoP Fan Art!

October 07, 2009 By: Jim Gibbons Category: Comicks, Grassroots comics love, Real Life Happenings!

Back in July, Post-It Note artist extraordinaire Larry Joe Mitchell became the first person ever to draw a piece of Enemy of Peanuts fan art. I missed meeting up with Mr. Mitchell at Chicago Comic Con to receive the Post-It, but I think that turned out for the best. You see, if I had met him there, I would have never gotten another piece of EoP fan art on the envelope that contained the first Post-It!

Taking the PoP! Quiz

September 24, 2009 By: Jim Gibbons Category: Comicks, Grassroots comics love, Real Life Happenings!, Skimming the Internets

Way back at Chicago Comic-Con, the good fellows from Panels On Page asked me to step in front of the camera and complete their PoP! Quiz. Hosted by mic master Jason Kerouac, I fielded a series of semi-ridiculous questions about comics and the convention while attempting to be professional and hilarious in my haggard state at the end of the weekend. Though only a few of my responses made the final cut, it was a blast to participate and even more exciting to see it cut together all pretty-lookin’ thanks to my man Jason “K-Nice” Knize.

Alright, alright, on to the video… (more…)
