Fred Van Lente’s Five Comic-Making Mistakes

New York Times Bestselling author Fred Van Lente—who I’ve had the pleasure of working with on Resurrectionists, Brain Boy, Project Black Sky, new editions of his Action Philosophers and The Silencers, and a few other things—is, in my humble opinion, one of the finest writers in comics. If you’re looking for a script format to mimic, head to his website and check out his templates. As an editor, I love this format! It’s also one of the preferred formats of letterer extraordinaire Nate Piekos of Blambot!

Fred recently worked with Empaya Comics to create a list of the five mistakes people make when creating comics. It’s got some excellent nuggets of advice. In my ongoing endeavor to collect all sorts of writing advice and comics creation tips on this blog, I’m linking and pasting it below. Check it out!

Fred’s co-written a great book full of comics-making advice with talented writer/filmmaker Greg Pak called Make Comics Like the Pros. If you liked this advice, grab a copy of that, as well!
