“Call Me Ishmael.”

In B.P.R.D.: Garden of Souls, the Bureau’s fishman Abe Sapien, sails a boat—a short plot device that lends itself to one of the single greatest atmospheric comic book pages of all-time.

There’s so much personality in this single page, in regards to Abe and the story itself. When I rediscovered this page recently, I thought, “Man, we need a comic called High Seas Adventures Starring Captain Abraham Sapien, Maritime Man-At-Arms!” Then I realized that series kind of exists already. Either way, I love this page.

B.P.R.D.: Garden of Souls was written by John Arcudi and Mike Mignola with art by Guy Davis.
